Day 88: Low Snow
The sun finally rose above the clouds around 11:30! By noon it was already hidden behind it's cold gray blanket once again.

Day 43: Crystallized
I took no photos this morning. But, for the second time ever I saw "perfect" snowflakes. The picture above was taken the first time I saw them, January 17th, 2007. Today, as I took the boys to school I saw them again. I had no time to stop and try to catch one of the flying beauties. They were melting on contact, so I just had to enjoy the little glimpses I got. The whole way to school I kept exlaiming:
"Oh, did you see that one?
Wow, look at the size of that one!
Ahhh, they're SO pretty!"
"Mom," the oldest retorted, "it's just ice!"

Day 24: Hang On!
Finallyten days
of gray
and ice
and fog
and clouds
so dark and dreary
cold and weary
interrupted by a change
flakes so soft
and white
and clean
fall softly
blanketing the land
my eyes take in a feast of beauty
every hue jumps out
in contrast
to the pure white snow
fulfilling longings in my soul
long dulled by icy gray
within the midst of orchard trees
birds chirp and fly
from branches pruned
to apples sweet
and then I spy
upon a wire
a clothespin
random
unexplained
it whispers silently
Hang On!
The darkest night
is just before the dawn!

Day 18: A Light Dusting
A very fine and dainty dustof powdered sugar snow
was sprinkled lightly on the drive
while I slept soundly through the night
A chunk of white and crusty ice
cracks and crunches where puddles once
reflected sky and cloud
in universes underground
The gray unending sky remains
like covers pulled over our heads
to shield us from the blazing sun
that wants to wake our sleepy eyes
Oh, blessed wind please blow this way
and pull away the blanket gray
for though the sun may blind and stars may chill
they'll pull the cobwebs from my mind
and sweet fresh air will fill my soul.

Day 6: Going Green
It doesn't look like it but there is a thick layer of rain clouds blocking the sun. They wind kept blowing and by sunset the sky was glorious! Why can't the sunrises have a bit of glory?

Day 2: Jan. 2nd, 2009
I was expecting more rainclouds this morning, but instead I was greeted by a soft whispering blanket of pure white snow! How lovely! Why had I wimped out and not taken a picture of the rain yesterday? It would have made such a nice contrast. Oh, well... the Bible verse about the snow popped into my mind:
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;I looked it up online, and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was followed one of my favorite passages:
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
- Psalm 51:7
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.-Psalm 51: 10-12
It's the first in a little trio of verses I've considered "mine" since I was a teenager.
I used the version switcher and looked it up in The Message and liked the way this passage read:
Scrub away my guilt,I guess that sums up my resolutions - I'm hoping to wash out some stains, I know I can't get rid of all of them now, but little by little I hope to make my life a little brighter!
soak out my sins in your laundry.
I know how bad I've been;
my sins are staring me down.
